Homemade Peach Ice Cream

I LOVE summer!  It really is my favorite.  I love the long days with more of a relaxed schedule, but I love the harvest of summer the most!  Peaches are probably at the top of my list as far as fruits go.  When local peaches are in season everyone is looking for recipes with peaches but I am telling you this is the BEST one!  I’m not joking or exaggerating, if you only try one recipe from this blog, this is the one to try!

Homemade ice cream is a favorite for my family and this Peach Ice Cream is their favorite variety.  We usually only have this once, maybe twice a year at the most.  I only like to make it when I have really good peaches that are a little on the ripe side.  That’s when you’ll get the most peach flavor.  If you find yourself with not so flavorful peaches, a trick I use is to shake a little dry Jell-O powder into your peach puree.  It will really elevate the peach flavor.

If you’ve never made homemade ice cream before, now is the time to try it.  It does take a little effort, but the end product is so worth it.  You will need an electric ice cream maker.  I have the old school style that uses ice and ice cream salt.  The one I have is similar to this.

I think these kind are best.  There are new fancy ones that don’t use ice and salt but you can only make really small batches and they just don’t freeze quite as well, in my opinion.

After you have your ice cream freezer chosen, you have to make the actual ice cream mixture.  With this recipe, you cook the eggs and sugar together.  It is important to let this mixture cool completely and be a little chilled before you add the cream and peaches.  The freezing process will move a little more quickly if the sugar mixture is good and chilled.

Once you’ve combined all the ingredients and poured the ice cream into the container you start layering ice and salt around the container.  Make sure to use plenty of salt.  That helps it freeze faster.  At this point, all of the work is done.  You simply turn your ice cram freezer on and let it do all of the work.  You let the machine run until it shuts off.  That’s how you know it’s done.  All that’s left to do is enjoy the ice cream!

If you don’t already have an ice cream freezer, you are going to want to get one (link below) and give this recipe a try ASAP!  I promise you won’t regret it!
