Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer! Who is ready?!?! I know I am! With the start of summer the temperature will be rising and everyone will be looking for a way to cool off. What better way to cool of than with an icy beverage. This summer I’m going to be featuring different beverage recipes for my Thirsty Thursday series.
When you think of summertime drinks, Lemonade is at the top of the list! It’s not a cookout or picnic without a pitcher of nice cold lemonade. Honestly, my family drinks lemonade year-round. I know, we’re weird! Since we drink it so much I have tried different concoctions, and have decided this is the best! Here’s a little secret……I use lemonade mix! I know you’re thinking……seriously? You call that a recipe?!?! Yes, after much tweaking, I have found the perfect combination of tart and sweet.
Obviously if I use lemonade mix as the base, this recipe is quick and easy! Most people don’t believe that I use a mix because this lemonade is that good! I use all different brands of lemonade mix, but I will say that it’s usually the most economical if I buy the large container of Country Time at Sam’s Club. I’ve used store brand before and it was just as good, so use whatever you like.
The key to this recipe is doubling the amount of lemonade mix that is called for for the volume you are making. For example, if I’m making 2 quarts of lemonade and the directions tell me to add 4 scoops of lemonade mix, I add 8. Now, not only do I just add more mix, I also add more sugar! That might seem excessive, but I promise you it is SO good! If I am serving lemonade at a party I also like to add lemon slices to the pitcher.
Make a batch of this Lemonade for your Memorial Day parties this weekend!
