One week from today is Thanksgiving! I am so ready. I know most of us have our menus planned, but you are going to want to make room for this dessert! This Triple Layer Skillet Apple Pie is to die for! Seriously, it is so, so good! I think my regular apple pie is great, but I’m telling you this one beats it! There’s just something about a sweet, gooey treat baked in an iron skillet that says comfort!
I know I’ve preached numerous times about homemade pie crust but I am going to make an exception for this pie. By all means feel free to use homemade pie crust if you have it but I don’t feel like it’s absolutely necessary for this Triple Layer Skillet Apple Pie.
Brown sugar and butter melt together in the iron skillet to make a caramel like bottom to this pie. I think that’s what really sets this apart from a traditional apple pie. The iron skillet works very well for that. I have attempted this in a regular pie plate and it just isn’t quite big enough to fit all the ingredients and the brown sugar and butter sticks to the bottom.
Since this Triple Layer Skillet Apple Pie is made with store bought crust it is quick to make. Just throw the butter in the skillet to melt and then add brown sugar. You can slice your apples while the magic is happening with the brown sugar and butter. Once you slice all the apples, just alternate your layers of pie crust and apples topped with cinnamon and sugar. Just pop it in the oven and wait for it to bake!
Once the crust gets nice and golden brown take the skillet out and let it cool for a bit. You want to let it cool long enough for the filling to set up but you want the pie to still be warm. Serve it with a little vanilla ice cream. That’s the best combination with the warm pie!
I know I say this about most recipes, but you are seriously going to want to make this ASAP. The first time I made it my family asked when I could make it again. It really is a crowd pleaser! Heck this is so good, you might not want to wait until Thanksgiving!
